Last week, the New York City branch of Mothers & More hosted its second annual Power of a Purse event benefitting the women of the YW’s Women’s Empowerment Network (WEN)! Through the Power of a Purse event, Mothers & More chapters nationwide partnered with Lord & Taylor stores to collect new and gently used purses for community organizations. Recognizing purses as a symbol of a woman’s economic power, Power of a Purse also teaches financial literacy issues that can help women improve their economic well-being. Certified Financial Planner Anja Luesink, president of Luesink Financial Planning and member of the Financial Planning Association of New York facilitated this portion of the day, teaching students how to understand common payroll deductions in a presentation titled “Understanding the Hidden Wealth in Your Paycheck.”

Mothers & More Board members Maria Zaino, Head of Business and Administration for Global Merger and Acquisitions at Shearman and Sterling, Brenda Yung and Ginger Trunkes coordinated the event and were present to help distribute the bags. The Women’s Empowerment Network thanks Mothers & More, Lord & Taylor, the Financial Planning Association of New York, Anja Luesink and Charles David NYC for supporting the success of the women in WEN.
