At the 38th Annual Salute Luncheon, the YWCA-NYC introduces the leading ladies of business: the Academy of Women Leaders Class of 2011. We congratulate Cynthia R. Shoss on this recognition, and look forward to honoring her on October 28!
Cynthia R. Shoss is a Senior Partner and Co-Chair of the Dewey & LeBoeuf Insurance Regulatory Department. Cynthia counsels clients on transformative transactions such as demutualizations, mergers, conversions, restructurings and acquisitions. She drafts laws and provides advice on governance, examinations and investigations, compliance and other matters. From 1987-89, she was Managing Partner of the firm’s London office. She has advised numerous insurance commissioners and attorneys general on legislation, mergers and conversions.
Cynthia has been recognized repeatedly as a leading lawyer in insurance transactional and regulatory matters, and Business Insurance named her one of its 25 “Women to Watch” in 2010.
Cynthia initiated the development of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Women’s Initiatives Committee. She serves on the firm’s Diversity Committee and other mentoring programs, and she chaired the firm’s pro bono practice for a decade. She has served on and chaired the boards of leading industry associations and colleges as well as not-for-profit and legal services organizations.
Cynthia obtained her J.D. from Tulane Law School, her LL.M. in Taxation from NYU Law School and a B.A. in English from Newcomb College-Tulane University.
