The Allstate Foundation and YWCA Join Together to Pass the Purple Purse and Encourage Conversation about Domestic Violence in New York City YWCA of the City of New York to pass 10 purple purses in community to earn $10,000 grant for domestic violence services

WHAT:

Domestic violence strikes more than 145 times each hour in the U.S. On average, three women die every day as a result. It (domestic violence) also affects one in four women in their lifetime – and strikes more women than breast cancer, lung cancer and ovarian cancer combined. But, it’s still hard to talk about. Fewer than half of Americans say they would know how to help a victim of domestic violence. This October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Allstate Foundation selected the YWCA of the City of New York as one of 30 local YWCAs across the country to be a part of Purple Purse – the Foundation’s national campaign to
build awareness of domestic violence. The YWCA of the City of New York received 10 purple purses to pass along to community members, family and friends to spark conversations that can help survivors break free of violence. Each time a purple purse is passed and checked in at www.PurplePurse.com, the YW will earn a $5 donation from The Allstate Foundation. If the YWCA of the City of New York is able to pass their purses a total of 1,000 times, The Allstate Foundation will double the donation and reward them with a $10,000 grant.

If you don’t receive a purple purse, you can still get involved by logging onto to www.facebook.com/PurplePurse to pass a virtual purple purse, triggering a $5donation to YWCA. The Allstate Foundation will donate up to $350,000 to the 30 local YWCAsin total.
