Join us this Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 12-1 PM as we learn about the science of trauma and how yoga practices can be utilized to support recovery!

YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. For more than 20 years, we have set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence – a week to raise awareness and engage action to end the broad spectrum of violence – as part of a global movement with World YWCA to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA-NYC, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why we focus on ending gender-based violence, including domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and harassment.

This year, we are proud to partner with Exhale to Inhale to offer a Trauma Therapy Yoga session virtually!

We know that yoga is good for anxiety, depression, addiction and a host of other challenges. However, a person experiencing trauma symptoms may not benefit from a traditional yoga class held at a gym or yoga studio because these spaces are not always trauma informed. Students working through trauma can often become triggered in a typical yoga class either by unexpected touch, specific music, unfamiliar language or even the discomfort at being a novice.
