What is the AWL?

The YWCA-NYC Academy of Women Leaders (AWL) is a distinguished network of nearly 3,000 women whose companies and organizations have chosen to recognize women for their leadership, achievement and contributions to their companies, institutions and communities.

Anywhere from 50 to 70 honorees are newly inducted into the AWL at the annual Salute to Women Leaders Luncheon. For over 30 years, the Salute Lunch has been a premier event for a broad spectrum of companies, professional service organizations and nonprofits to embrace and celebrate the advancement of women and demonstrate their commitment to diversity.

The role of the AWL Advisory Council

Providing direction for the evergrowing AWL is the Academy of Women Leaders Advisory Council. The mission of the AWL Advisory Council is to provide leadership networking opportunities for AWL members and to serve as a resource to the YW, providing personal and professional expertise in planning networking and fundraising events, assisting the YW and the clients it serves through mentoring and job development, and acting as outreach ambassadors for the YW and the AWL.

Claire Gutekunst, Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP and AWL Class of 1997, currently serves as Chair of the AWL Advisory Council.
