Early Learning Center Graduation
At this recent YW Early Learning Center graduation, families celebrated the achievements of students who completed the Early Learning Center’s Creative Curriculum. Graduations occur every year at all Early Learning Center sites.

A Martial Arts Education
At the YW-UFT Extended Day Program in East New York, Brooklyn, students from kindergarten and first grade study karate for one hour each week. On the morning of April 24, students competed in front of parents and a panel of judges. Winning participants were awarded trophies for their forms, self-defense, and sparring. Read more…

Artistic Reflections on Black History Month
The children at the YW’s After School Program at P.S. 209 celebrated Black History Month in style by producing a stunning gallery of original art pieces inspired by African-American leaders and culture. Read more…

Dear Mr. President
Students at the YW’s After School Program at P.S. 90 composed letters for Barack Obama, and were delighted to receive a gracious response. The students’ letters to the President praised him for changing history while also raising concerns they had about the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. Read more…

UFT Extended Day Program Step Team Raises Money
On May 6 and May 7, the YW Step Team at UFT held a bake sale to raise money for class trips. These are pictures from the bake sale that the step team held. They raised a total of $549.

Around the World in LEGO
On May 21, the students of the YW’s After School Program at P.S. 90 presented Around the World in LEGO, a gorgeous showcase of the world’s most exquisite landmarks, including the Taj Mahal, Big Ben and many more, all recreated in brilliant LEGO. Thousands of pieces were used for this project sponsored, in part, by HSBC Bank USA, N.A. Read more…

Super Hero Extravaganza
On June 10, the students of the YW’s After School Program at P.S. 327 showcased their comic book creations. Characters such as “Multi Man” and “Wonder Girl” graced the gymnasium walls and starred in original comic book stories handed out to all attendees.

Murry Bergtraum Students Celebrate Claudette Colvin at McCann Erickson
Global advertising agency McCann Erickson invited the students of Murry Bergtraum High School to get creative and share their reaction to Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice. Students read the book and responded through original songs, artwork, monologues and more. All work was judged by professionals at McCann on its originality, connection to Claudette’s story and presentation.

YWCA-NYC Career Tour Series
Throughout the year, the students of the YW’s After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School for Business careers were treated to trips to the work sites of companies representing a host of industries. There, the students learned the ins and outs of numerous professions.

Family Day
On June 5, the YW brought the families of Coney Island together for an afternoon of music, games, arts & crafts and other fun activities. Whether they were feeding animals in the petting zoo, being wowed by the clowns’ balloon art and magic tricks, or partaking in the healthy food assortment, people of all ages had a marvelous time at the Roberta Bright Early Learning Center. Women’s Empowerment Network Graduation
At the end of every six-week Women’s Empowerment Network cycle, the graduates and their mentors hold a graduation ceremony, hosted by one of the YW’s corporate partners. Companies sponsoring mentor programs this year include KPMG, Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, UBS, Polo Ralph Lauren, Barclays Capital and AXA Equity.

Community Workshops
The YWCA of the City of New York welcomes all to its Community Workshops, held at the Family Resource Center. These workshops connect women to entrepreneurs, business leaders, community advocates and other YW friends and partners who lead lively discussions and informative tutorials that provide tools for New Yorkers to succeed personally and professionally.
