High School Programs
In 2002, the YWCA of the City of New York launched its High School After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers in response to the 9/11 attacks. Since then, the YW has served over 3,000 teens from all five boroughs with academic enrichment, mentoring, career and college exploration, counseling, service learning opportunities, arts and recreation. In 2008, the YW expanded services to Independence High School, an alternative school for over-age and under-credited students working toward their diplomas.
Support YW High School Programs Today
YW high school programs are designed to empower students in their academics, career and life. Students explore and develop their sense of self through the arts, expand on their school learning through real world experiences, learn problem solving through positive peer relations, community service, and leadership development, and connect with caring adults through small class sizes and personalized guidance. The YW also helps students strengthen their ties to school by offering academic credit for specialized classes and working closely with the schools to provide personalized guidance as students make important life decisions.
The YW High School Programs’ success is primarily dependent upon the generous contributions from individual supporters. Please consider making a donation.
