Support YW Youth! After School and Camp YW Program Listing

Art 1

This art class is not about coloring inbetween the lines! Art 1 gives children access to all different types of art concepts and materials. From building cities made from old peach containers to creating masks from the molds of children's own faces, students will explore two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms using a wide range of tools and Chess 1materials.

Chess 1

Chess encourages the use of imagination and strategy. In this program, children will learn the rules and joy of playing chess and checkers, two of the most cherished and challenging board games ever conceived.

Drama 1

In Drama 1, children work on creating their own scripts and acting in front of a live audience. On top of exercising their imaginations, children enhance their literacy skills while gaining self-confidence in public speaking.

Free Choice Summer A

During free choice, the summer staff and children come up with their own games. Activities range from playing board games to sports in a gym or outdoor area, giving children the power to shape their own summer programming.

Homework Help

Homework Help provides extra tutoring for children who need additional support in understanding and completing their homework. If children finish their homework early, they are given academic exercises to supplement what they learn during the school day.

Journalism 1

In Journalism 1, students explore the elements of news writing including page design, photo and art direction, and publication construction. Students work together to develop, write and publish their own stories.

Martial Arts Summer A

Children learn the "art of resolution without conflict" through martial arts, where discipline and self-defense are prioritized.

Math Games 1

Through interactive visuals and games, this activity strives to make math more comprehensible and fun.

Non-Traditional Games 1

In this program, we aim to keep children attentive and interested. By offering non-traditional games, children who do not necessarily excel in traditional sports are given a chance to shine. This activity offers a unique mix of physical and mental skill building that differs from traditional sports or games.

Nutrition 1

Our nutrition specialists teach children how to eat well and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Children construct food pyramids, prepare nutritious snacks and learn to identify unhealthy foods.

Outdoor Games Summer A

In schoolyards and city parks, children are given the chance to play in structured and unstructured games under the supervision of the summer staff.

Pick Up

During pick up, children gather their belongings in preparation for going home. If a parent or guardian is late in picking up his or her child, board games and extra homework are passed out to keep children engaged and entertained until they arrive.

Reading 1

Children learn the joys of reading through comprehension games and activities. Books are distributed according to reading level, so beginners and advanced readers can develop a love for literature side by side.

Snack

Students are treated to a nutritious snack at the beginning of the after school programming.

Sports 1

Every week, a new sport is introduced. The goal of this activity is to teach campers the rules and regulations of each sport, ultimately allowing them to play several practice games by the end of each week.

Summer Breakfast

As part of Camp YW, breakfast is served to students once they arrive at each site.

Summer Lunch

As part of Camp YW, lunch is served to students towards the middle of each day.

Summer Snacks

As part of Camp YW, students are treated to a nutritious snack towards the end of each day.

Summer Pick Up

During pick up, children gather their belongings in preparation for going home. If a parent or guardian is late in picking up his or her child, board games and extra homework are passed out to keep children engaged and entertained until they arrive.

Summer Trips

Twice a week, counselors introduce campers to the unique sights and sounds of New York City. Campers play soccer in Prospect Park and Central Park, tease their imaginations at the New York Hall of Science and the Intrepid Museum, learn how to rollerblade at the Empire Rolling Center, and cheer for their home team at a Brooklyn Cyclones game. The above are just a sample of the trips campers will take during their time at Camp YW.
