Dinner by the Book
About Dinner by the Book
Dinner by the Book was first launched in February 2011, as an opportunity to couple great food and literature with the YW’s commitment to empowering women and eliminating racism. Due to the event’s success, it has been expanded into a series – highlighting the YW’s mission through different authors, cultures, and cuisines.
Whether fiction or non-fiction, each book explores a story of empowerment from a different country and each dinner menu is designed to reflect that particular country or region’s cuisine. As an organization with a presence in 106 different countries, the YW hopes that this series will help supporters understand that both empowerment and cultural understanding come in a variety of different forms.
A portion of the proceeds from each Dinner by the Book event supports the YW’s extensive programming efforts throughout New York City, including early learning centers, after school programs and workforce readiness programs for women and their children.
