Volunteer tutor opportunity

Volunteer Title: Tutor (Math, Science, English)

Objectives: The After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School strives to empower youth to achieve long term success through programs that foster social development and arts enrichment.


Duties and Responsibilities
:

• Arrive punctually at the library to begin program immediately after day school ends.

• Provide individual and small group tutoring.

• Design and implement small group activities to encourage student participation in library/tutoring activities.

• Ensure that library equipment is respected and that library rules are followed.

• Encourage at risk youth to succeed academically through providing an encouraging and structured environment.


Qualifications and Requirements:

• Experience with and enthusiasm for working with high school age youth.

• Must have exceptional academic record, at least a 3.0 or higher in one of the following subjects: Biology, Math, English Composition, Chemistry, Global History.

• Must be energetic and flexible while working with students.

• Ability to act as advisor and instructor as appropriate.

• Sufficient organizational skills to complete appropriate paperwork.

• Ability and dedication to working with teens with and without disabilities.

• Enthusiasm about the after school program, and eagerness to assist staff in order that the program run smoothly.


Lines of Communication:
Reports to the Director and Assistant Director.

Orientation and Training:
Orientation sessions will be held at the school prior to each semester.

Times Needed and Place of Work:
After School programs run Monday - Thursday, 3-6 pm.
We’re asking for 2-3 sessions per week for a total of 4-6 hours.

Commitment Required:
3-4 months commitment; school semester based

Benefits:
References will be provided after a completed semester’s work.
Transportation stipend might be available.
