Intern/Receptionist
The receptionist is the first point of contact for our organization, with callers or customer visits, and so, above all, this person must be personable, confident and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The receptionist must convey a positive, professional image and a sense of composure at all times. Must have computer experience, ability to greet visitors and answer phones, take accurate messages and perform general clerical duties. Additional duties include administrative support, filing, data entry and maintaining office organization.


Qualifications:
• High School Diploma

• One to two years of responsible professional work experience in Customer relations is a plus

• Excellent interpersonal, communications, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to operate office equipment.

• Type, file & answer phones professionally

• Strong writing skills

• Computer Literate - Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and database management.

• Language Skills - ability to read and understand documents

Community Justice Coordinator

Angela Perez Center for People with Disabilities

Job summary:

This part time staff person for the After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School will design and implement a Community Justice Program intended to improve relations between participating students and members of the law enforcement community. Program activities include meeting regularly with police officers, judges, and other individuals working in law enforcement; participating in a mock trial competition; and performing community service. There is also a mentoring component.

The coordinator will encourage and develop leadership skills by electing student club leaders, helping students plan program content and organize special events, and helping students organize a mock trial. He or she will also work to coordinate a mentoring program that includes attending trainings and coordinating and overseeing mentor-mentee visits.


Essential functions:

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Arrive punctually for group meetings and related appointments.

2. Supervise students participating in group meetings.

3. Take accurate attendance at group and individual sessions keeping a log book.

4. Develop and implement with site coordinator recruitment/outreach strategy: (flyers, classroom visits, attending school special functions and speaking with parents, teachers and appropriate administrators).

5. Develop and implement appropriate program content incorporating student feedback.

6. Organize and coordinate special functions such as theatre, film, recognition ceremonies/celebration.

7. Outreach and maintain relationships with other law related institutions, such as the N.Y.P.D, District Attorney’s Office, Community Justice Centers, Police Museum.

8. Assure that area used is clean and tidy when activities are complete.

9. Write up monthly activities and compose report for our funder, The After-School Corporation.

10. Maintain positive relationship with Elizabeth Pitofsky, the TASC coordinator of the Community Justice project.


Qualifications:
Experience with and enthusiasm for working with high school age youth. Ability to form rapport with diverse group of youth.

Excellent organizational skills to successfully coordinate special events and field trips. Ability and dedication to working with teens with and without disabilities, enthusiasm about the after school program, and eagerness to assist and the program run smoothly.

1. Overseeing and assisting with the editing, lay-out, proofreading and production of the literary magazine

2. Increasing student involvement with Pizazz

3. Soliciting writing and art submissions through posters, announcements, etc.

4. Teaching the students how to create a magazine layout using InDesign and other Adobe software
5. Leading writing workshops with student writers to develop their writing skills

6. Organizing literary-related workshops and guest speakers to further introduce different aspects of both written and spoken word to a high school audience

This part time position for After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School will be responsible for supervision of the Open Library program and assist students with research and homework help. He or she will be required to complete appropriate paperwork and conduct and help facilitate a number of outreach strategies for recruiting students. Work and communicate well with SES tutors using the library facility. He or she will also implement appropriate strategies for retaining students.


Essential functions:
Primary Responsibilities:

1. Oversee study hall activities, including: monitoring and reviewing homework

2. Provide small group and one on one tutoring

3. Collaborate with library staff to develop engaging project based learning activities

4. Assist in creation of grade-level appropriate assignments and gathering materials/curricula

5. Maintain regular high attendance by implementing marketing techniques (such as flyers, announcements, student incentives)

6. Assess and assist students in core subjects

7. Assist participants in developing and meeting academic goals throughout the school year

Youth Court Case Worker

This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in gaining experience in social work or law! The Youth Court Case Worker will coordinate all aspects of a student led youth court at the YWCA-NYC After School Program in Murry Bergtraum High School. The youth court encourages students who commit nonviolent infractions during day school hours to become more engaged community members by implementing a restorative justice framework. He/She is responsible for planning and organizing youth court training and hearings in conjunction with school administration and after school students, scheduling meetings between students and law professional mentors, and planning special guest speaker visits from the Community Justice Project Network coordinated through The After School Corporation.


Primary Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with After School Program Director, Program Manager at The After School Corporation, students and school administration to coordinate and lead youth court hearings

2. Encourage academic progress by regular reviews of students’ schedule, test scores, and each cycle’s report card

3. Recruit and train students to participate in youth court

4. Prepare students who will hear before the court for court proceedings

5. Document all youth court proceedings and provide case notes on students

6. Assist in referring/providing follow-up services for students as needed

7. Complete and submit monthly activity reports and surveys

8. Assist in planning and organizing field trips to local Youth Courts, Police Precincts, and other law related trips

9. Assist in gathering feedback from students and help in creating responsive modifications in the program

10. Develop recruitment and outreach strategy with Program Director to ensure regular student attendance in club activities

11. Submit all required paperwork such as student enrollment forms, attendance rosters, monthly reports, etc in a timely manner
